Martha Carlson, co-principal and executive coach, hosted a breakfast event for 80 women leaders at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis on Friday, December 5th. The theme was “The Gift You Give Yourself”. The event, designed to give participants a taste of The Exchange – A Networking and Professional Development Forum for Women Leaders, was extremely well received. Comments such as “just what I needed at this time of year” to “I’ve never met so many terrific women at once” were heard afterwards.
Martha’s key note focused on the idea that as women, we constantly give of ourselves, our time, our money, our love, our work, and our friendship to others. Rarely do we give anything and even more rarely do we give ourselves something of intangible value. Things like:
- Unconditional love
- Time alone
- Meditation or peaceful reflection
- Freedom to say no
- Sleep
- Self-care
- Fun
- Freedom from worry
- Permission to be “in the moment”
Afterwards, participants had a chance to reflect on and capture something intangible they wish to give them in the coming year – and wrap it up and take it home in a small gift box.
The event closed with a drawing for several door prizes including handmade mittens donated by Extend Goodwill of Minneapolis (www.goodwilleasterseals.org) and beautiful reversible bags with beaded handles donated by Pritz Custom Luxury Handbags (www.pritz.com).
Participants also donated gloves and mittens that will be given to Sharing and Caring Hands.
