A Season of Change!

A great thing about the state we live in, is that there are definite seasons. Each season has heralds and markers that signal it’s arrival, such as the brilliantly colored changes that our leaves go through. Some seasons represent growth, and others represent maturation.

The Bailey Group itself is going through a season of change. We are saying goodbye to a friend in Julie Resch, as she steps into the next chapter in her career, and we welcome Eileen Nordby as our new Office Manager.

We are also proud to announce the elevation of our own Barb Krantz Taylor, to the position of Co-Principal of The Bailey Group, joining Martha Carlson and myself.

We are also in conversations with Wendy Friede to establish an exclusive partnership to serve the needs of our clients who are experiencing the challenges of a generationally diverse workforce.

As women leaders are taking a more predominant position in the spotlight (political candidates, anyone?) the conversation on the characteristics of women leaders is heating up on The Exchange “A Forum for Women Leaders” to join fellow women leaders in the discussions, click on the Forum link on the right.

Finally, we have another tip from Kathe Grooms on battling your email inbox to avoid being buried by emails.

A Guest Expert Tip from Kathe Grooms ofВ Nova Vista Publishing

Don’t you just love returning to your computer after an absence and seeing the stream of new messages roll in? Even if you’ve managed delivery interruptions (as we discussed in our last article), you still have to deal with what shows up.

Here is a simple 5 point strategy to help you get your inbox under control after a deluge of emails:

  1. Define your Inbox parameters – Set the maximum and minimums of the number of emails that are acceptable to you to have in your inbox. When the maximum is reached, it is time to schedule an email filing session

Leading in Today’s Cross Generational WorkplacehВ

By Wendy Friede

Wendy FriedeLeading today’s generationally diverse workforce brings a set of challenges and opportunities never faced before. This is the first time in the history of the United States that there are four differentiated generations showing up in the workplace. Each generation brings with it differences in values, work ethic, education, communication style and attitudes towards authority and teams. After all, each has been influenced by different events during their formative years. But do these differences mean we need a whole new tool box for leading effectively? I believe that there are core leadership competencies that are effective in attracting, motivating and retaining any talented employee but what’s different is the need to be flexible and nimble in the application of the basics.

The mix of those in the workplace today is heavily weighted towards the biggest generation swell of all times, the Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers, those between age 44 and 62, account for 76 million of today’s population. That’s 46% of the total workforce.
