CEO Hiring

"Hiring the Right CEO (Collection)."

This is a collection of articles that all center around how to hire the right CEO for a specific company. The first article “Ending the CEO Succession Crisis” by Ram Charan claims that the CEO succession line is broken and it takes a lot to hire a successful CEO that fits the company. This article talks about how to find a CEO who will serve your company well and for a long time. The second piece in this collection is “Changing Leaders: The Board’s Role in CEO Succession” by Jay W. Lorsch and Rakesh Khurana. These authors argue that the selection of a chief executive counts as one of the highest risks and most crucial decisions a company has to make. The authors offer insight into what goes on behind closed doors during the process of choosing a new CEO. They suggest that in order to do this successfully the board must play a large role developing a rigorous and defensible process. The third article, “Are You Picking the Right Leaders?” by James Brant and Melvin Sorcher claims that companies often falter when the wrong leaders are chosen to move up in the company. These authors suggest a variety of ways to be sure the best person is chosen to move up. They recommend that a balanced picture of each candidate is complied and offer some skills to look for and some skills to ignore in leaders. The last article “Don’t Hire the Wrong CEO” by Warren Bennis and James O’Toole argues that the reason so many CEO’s are likely to be fired is because of the way they were chosen. These authors discuss that most boards pick the wrong people to fill executive positions because they do not know what good leadership is. This article lays out advice on how to choose the right CEO for any company.
