Board of Directors
"Building the Best Boards (Collection)."
This is a collection of articles put out by the Harvard Business Review; each article is related in that they all discuss ways to build the best boards with in organizations. The first article, “Building Better Boards” By David A. Nadler, stresses the importance of deliberately constructed plans for board members. The article suggests that board members start with rigorous self assessments in order to develop a logical and effective plan for the board. The second article, “What Makes Great Boards” by Jeffery A. Sonnenfeld suggests that fallen boards played by the rules but did not have what it took to make them great. Sonnenfeld claims that great boards get the truth, challenge one another, and even have a good fight now and then. The last article, “The Board’s Missing Link” by Cynthia A. Montgomery and Rhonda Kaufman suggests ways to ensure effective governance in companies. These authors explain that three key players, shareholders, management, and board of directors all have significant roles in obtaining success in companies. If any one link is neglected the company will suffer.
